From The Streets To The Underground

Radio Jockey
Stuart Soulful

I'm an old guy who loves music. Some of my earliest memories are of watching the Supremes, The Four

Tops, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and many more live on TV when I was a kid. However my absolute

musical passion is Reggae, the music from Jamaica in all its forms. I love to play music and simply enjoy

the reac%on of people ge&ng into something they may not have heard before. Music is universal, for the

young and old and if you're rocking to the beat that's the only language you need. Check out Soulful's

Classic Reggae Show and, just maybe, you'll hear something to musically grab your soul

Like most people I like to think I have wide and varied tastes when it comes to music
however my absolute passion is Reggae (Ska, Rock Steady, Reggae, Roots, Dancehall
and Ragga). Since the age of eleven, after hearing “Prince Buster Fabulous Greatest
Hits” LP I have been buying Reggae music and now being in my 60’s I am still excited
to hear the dull thud of a 7 inch falling from the letter box onto the door mat. It’s
one of the only things to get me out of bed early.
For more than 50 years Reggae has been a huge influence for me. From Dj’ing in a
Blues party (sometimes called shubeens) in Southampton, doing session work for
LLoydie Coxsone (Drummer), Dj’ing at home or abroad, working with various artists
and producers in Jamaica, rocking in a sound dance or watching an artist(s)
perform, Reggae has been the backbone to my life

For me to hear something, I’ve not heard before, which just destroys me, knocks me
sideways and as Marley said “When it hits you feel no pain” (Such an apt and well
put lyric) is an amazing feeling. Dj’ing has been a large part of my life for many years
and If I can play something which some people have not heard before, and they have
a great reaction to it, I’m a happy man. These days I concentrate my shows on Ska
to Early Dancehall (60’s to the 80’s) and everything in between. For me playing
music should be fun, entertaining and informative. Good music is for the listener to
decide but if I can help move people along the way I feel blessed.
